Shelter Our Sisters has provided services to Bergen County's victims of domestic violence since 1976. SOS is the only social services agency in the county that provides shelter, specialized children's programming and emotional support for women and child victims of domestic violence. In addition to our 24-hour hotline and emergency shelter, SOS provides a continuum of life-saving services for our community which includes: affordable transitional housing, individual and group counseling, legal advocacy, work readiness training (Project Self-Sufficiency), bilingual services, extensive follow-up services and two children's programs. Project CHILD, which builds Confidence, Hope, Independence, Love and Direction, is our community-based creative arts therapy program which additionally offers transportation and therapy for the non-offending parent. SOS offers a caring and supportive environment, and are currently assisting over 700 families annually and more than 4500 hotline callers. SOS also offers education and training to our local communities and organizations about the issues of domestic violence and violence in the workplace.
